Good evening everyone,

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the severe weather is behind us. The weather that came through was wicked, leaving behind downed trees, house services broken and no power.

We want to help you understand our process and to assure you that our entire group (11 total) was out assessing the damage and trying to restore service to our town.

We anticipated the event and had our engine plant running. The DTE interconnection was lost and our Pine Street engine plant held until a 40kV pole top switch (PTS) got hit by lightning. This disruption caused our unit to trip and lockout as it is designed to protect itself.

Through the driving rain and lightning, our group mustered together to formulate our restoration plan. We got our plant back up with one unit running and started to bring our circuits back on. The PTS was sparking and again tripped the unit. Our linemen, inspected the switch, cleaned the debris from the connection and reclosed it.

Every time we have to start the process, all the circuit breakers feeding the town must be opened, get the engines up and running and then slowly add load back; closing each circuit, let the load settle and then add more.

In a perfect scenario, all goes as planned and we are back up quickly. Our dedicated workers continue to clean up storm related issues and monitor the plant status. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these types of weather events. Our goal is to ensure we have safe and reliable power, bringing our workers home safely.
